As both the fair-haired Princess Anneliese and the brunette Erika, Barbie for the first time ever, sings in this musical adventure. Each girl is yearning for a different life – one she is free to choose. When they meet, it’s a shock at first, but then true friendship develops, and the girls are forever bonded. A dastardly plot threatens to harm Princess Anneliese and her kingdom, but Erika risks her own life to save her new friend.

Both girls have some special friends to help them along the way, including Serafina, the pampered feline of the palace and Wolfie, the cat who thinks he’s a dog. Queen Genevieve has arranged for Princess Anneliese to marry King Dominick so that his kingdom can help their ailing one. However, her duplicitous advisor, Preminger, wants to marry Princess Anneliese and rule over the kingdom himself. Princess Anneliese would rather marry her tutor, Julian.

When she is kidnapped by Preminger, Julian asks Erika to play the part of the Princess so the kingdom will be safe while he tries to find Anneliese. However, playing a princess becomes more dangerous than Erika anticipated, as she finds herself falling in love with the dashing King Dominick…

Featuring the voice of Martin Short as the evil Preminger and seven original songs by Broadway lyricist Amy Powers and composer Megan Cavallari, BARBIE - THE PRINCESS & THE PAUPER is a modern-day makeover of Mark Twain’s classic tale and combines storytelling and song to bring the characters to life with spectacular elegance.
