The setting is occupied Poland, from 1942 through 1944, at the height of Hitler's genocidal fury. When the Jewish families of a rural village were ordered to report to a military compound for shipment to the Ukraine — and certain death — one group chose a seemingly impossible alternative. They literally buried themselves alive.
