Somewhere between fantasy & reality, innocence & wisdom, pop music & an art form as yet unnamed, is the world of Connan Mockasin. Please Turn Me Into The Snat is the title of his highly anticipated debut solo album.
Written & recorded over the past 18 months, from East Sussex in the UK to an abandoned haunted house in Wellington, Please Turn Me Into The Snat introduces the listener to the amazing world of Connan Mockasin, from cats with larger-than-life personalities & unicorns in uniform to alter egos like Don Dicaprio.
Since relocating to the UK from his native NZ two years ago, he has charmed audiences everywhere; from Hyde Park (where he played alongside the White Stripes) & Green Man Festival (with Robert Plant & Joanna Newsom) to the legendary Durr Club – he remains the only artist invited back 3 times – & he has collaborated with Fatboy Slim on a track for his new album, Brighton Port Authority, which also includes contributions from David Byrne & Iggy Pop!
In NZ he regularly sells out his own club shows & in August last year completed a hugely successful NZ theatre tour alongside Liam Finn & James Milne (Lawrence Arabia) which saw the trio perform to packed houses in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin & at the Wellington Opera House.
Creativity has always been Connan’s engine. Growing up in rural Hawkes Bay, he was already playing guitar in a blues band by the age of 10 while pursuing overlapping interests in art & invention. In 2004 he formed the trio Connan & The Mockasins, who toured tirelessly, initially in NZ, then in Europe, releasing a pair of successful EPs, plus a single, Sneaky Sneaky Dogfriend for EMI’s distinguished Parlophone label. The first pressing sold out in just days.
The group dissolved in 2008, leaving Connan free to collaborate with a wide variety of musicians as he developed his singular ideas, the first fruits of which can be found in Please Turn Me Into The Snat.
