Bill Greaves (Sam Rockwell) is a down on his luck loser, estranged from his teenage daughter and reduced to bussing tables at the local diner. When the local high school principal (Rob Corddry) enlists his help to coach the hopeless girls basketball team, Bill thinks he’s finally hit rock bottom.

But as Bill’s unorthodox approach clashes hilariously with the girls’ rebellious nature, Bill realizes that he’s reached yet another pathetic low. When the team, led by Wendy (Rooney Mara) and Abby (Emma Roberts), offer him a shot at redemption and the chance at a winning season, Bill finds something to fight for and he’ll do every crazy thing he can for victory.
