Arch Hill presents Falling Debris, a brand new David Kilgour album with lyrics by NZ icon Sam Hunt!
David Kilgour is well known for fronting seminal Flying Nun band The Clean – recognised as one of the founders of the NZ indie rock scene & pivotal in the development of the “Dunedin Sound” – & also for his solo albums, dating from 1991s critically acclaimed Here Come The Cars to last year’s The Far Now.
Sam Hunt is NZ’s best known poet, having been performing for his entire adult life around the globe. Following an accidental meeting in Dunedin airport in 2007, Kilgour & Hunt hatched a plan to record an album of musical spoken word together. However, when Kilgour sat down & began singing Hunts poems, he realised he was being inspired to write better & better music to accompany these special turns of phrase.
Falling Debris was recorded in Kilgour’s house by Thomas Bell, with regular band The Heavy 8’s in tow. Sung & played entirely by Kilgour & his band (Hunt never appears), Falling Debris is the sound of a band already at one with each other – & 2 of NZ’s most revered creative figures collaborating on some of the most affecting indie pop this side of a Clean album!
